The history of the business goes back to 1937, when a young Italian settled here. There was a shop on the ground floor, and the coffee roaster in the basement. After the war it also became possible to enjoy a cup of coffee on the spot! Our authentic, wooden interior still exudes the nostalgic atmosphere of the 1940s and 1950s.

If you like to enjoy a delicious cup of coffee, Mokabon is the place to be. Here you get your coffee and cappuccino with fresh whipped cream as standard and there is no WiFi. You are catapulted all the way back in time to 1937, the year Mokabon opened. Since then, time has also stood still nostalgically. The dark brown interior is as iconic as the fresh, home-roasted coffee beans.
In the shadow of a large 'new' Starbucks and hidden between a row of historic facades lies one of the oldest coffee bars in Ghent: Mokabon, a small authentic coffee shop that harks back to a folk coffee tradition.
